invivodata introduces wireless patient diary system

The new version is designed to enable real-time access to study a subject's diary data via wireless handheld devices. According to invivodata, the new version is designed to complement its science-based compliance system and adds wireless support to create a real-time flow of data from study subjects to investigators and sponsors.

"As wireless connectivity becomes more widespread, wireless data upload performed without subject intervention will be useful," said Gerry Purdy, President and CEO of Mobile Insights. "This approach will reduce subject burden and provide a reliable means to collect data more frequently than with site visits or even standard modem uploads. invivodata clearly understands how to apply wireless technology appropriately to clinical trials. These solutions are not just about technology -- they require the expert application of relevant science."

The invivodata subject monitoring system is designed to deliver valid and timely data and aims to reduce the time invested and risk factor for the sponsor. According to its developers, the system also provides Web access to enable users to study data and provides real-time access to the diary data for sponsors and investigators.

Aether Systems, a provider of wireless data products and services, provides the wireless data services, systems and sync software to run the invivosystem 4.2 version.

"The Aether solution provides a very solid wireless foundation for the invivosystem," said Jon McClelland, Vice President of Product Development at invivodata. "Our proven methods for gathering real-time, real world data from subjects significantly improves the quality of patient experience data that can be collected in clinical trials. The addition of wireless device support will provide sponsors with the next generation of patient experience diaries, increasing the speed with which subject data can be relayed to researchers for analysis."
