Under the terms of the agreement, FreeMarkets will provide GlaxoSmithKline with access to its eSourcing Suite to enable the company to source goods and services for its worldwide operations.

FreeMarkets' eSourcing Suite is designed to provide a range of e-sourcing solutions that enable companies to place all of their sourcing online. The solution is built on an ASP-based platform and includes FreeMarkets' FullSource, DirectSource and QuickSource applications.

Through the agreement with FreeMarkets, GlaxoSmithKline will use all three applications to create online markets for goods and services. The recent agreement follows the success achieved by SmithKline Beecham in sourcing goods and services through the FreeMarkets B2B global marketplace.

"We are extremely satisfied with the results that FreeMarkets has delivered to us to date, and are pleased to be expanding our use of the company's e-sourcing solutions to include the DirectSource and QuickSource offerings," said Willie Deese, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Purchasing at GSK. "By adding these applications to our portfolio, we can not only leverage FreeMarkets' expertise to create successful online markets for complex, direct and indirect materials and services, but utilize the experience of our own purchasing professionals to create markets for more routine buys. We look forward to working with FreeMarkets over the next two years to create online markets that generate the same kinds of savings and efficiencies for our operations that we have consistently seen since 1999."

"We are very pleased to be extending our relationship with GlaxoSmithKline and expanding the solutions we serve them with," said Jason Reneau, Director and General Manager of the Consumer and Services Sector at FreeMarkets. "As the first pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare company to use FreeMarkets to source goods online, SmithKline Beecham pioneered e-sourcing in its industry. By adopting and implementing our QuickSource solution to create its own e-markets, the company will again forge new territory. We look forward to continuing our work with GlaxoSmithKline and to delivering fast, measurable results that benefit their operations around the globe."
