Aventis Pharmaceuticals selects Atlas Commerce to enable supply chain collaboration

Under the terms of the agreement, Aventis Pharma will use the Atlas Metaprise Software to pilot a private supplier network, also known as a private e-hub. The pilot is designed to demonstrate enhanced communications between a selected group of the company's production centers and its suppliers. The initial implementation phase of the pilot project is expected to go live in April. Aventis Pharma predicts the collaboration will enable it to improve supply and demand management by providing more accurate and up-to-date forecast information to its suppliers.

"We have a proven expertise in offering systems which improve collaboration with suppliers and lead to more accurate forecasts and lower transaction costs," said Francois Chretien Managing Director of Europe for Atlas Commerce. "Therefore we are convinced, that we will meet Aventis' high expectations in offering a robust and innovative system that allows them to work more closely and more effectively with their suppliers."

The Atlas Metaprise Software is a Web-based application designed to enable global organizations to work more efficiently with their network of suppliers and distributors by implementing shared, externalized business processes. The solution, which is intended to address the three areas of strategic sourcing, supply and demand management and global commerce management, facilitates consistent communication among business partners and is designed to improve the coordination of resources across supply and demand chain. In addition, Atlas claims the software enables companies to reduce the costs of goods, while ensuring consistent supply availability.

"It is one of the main objectives of our Aventis Pharma business strategy to use information technology-enabled processes as a source of competitive advantage and to utilize e-technology as a tool to improve our relationships with our partners in the marketplace," said Jean-Francois Chaumont, Senior Vice President of Industrial Operations Supply Chain at Aventis Pharma. "The pilot project with Atlas Commerce is - among other projects - one step in that direction. We want to evaluate options for developing a robust system that allows us to enhance our supply and demand management through collaborative planning with our suppliers. The expected result is an improvement in inventory management and inventory replenishment that would make our supply chain more effective and cost efficient."
