Pharma is still fat

The pharmaceutical sector has been dogged by decades of excesses which have diminished the need for strategy.

The pharmaceutical sector has been dogged by decades of excesses which have diminished the need for strategy. We have been operating in special environments and the industry has taken full advantage of insulation from market realities. The insulation is being removed slowly - and rightfully so. It is time that our sector is ran with similar efficiencies that other verticals operate with. These changes though subtle will mean the need for strong competitive strategies will increase. It is right of consumers and Goverments to ask questions of the industry, the fact we create value does not mean the cost of the value we create cannot be questioned. The successful Pharmaceutical companies of the next decades will be a totally different animal to today's organisations.
