Phase Forward acquires Provenda Biometrics

Under the terms of the agreement, Phase Forward will offer Provenda's diary solution as the InForm NetDiary system, a Windows operating system and Microsoft Pocket PC-based diary application designed to facilitate patient data entry and management. The InForm NetDiary can be integrated with the InForm Web-based clinical trial solution or as a stand-alone product.

"We are delighted to welcome the Provenda team to our company," said Shiv Tasker, President and CEO of Phase Forward. "Our customers have made us aware of the growing global demand in the pharmaceutical industry to extend the scope of secure electronic data acquisition. We estimate that up to 30% of all customer studies will take advantage of the value the InForm NetDiary system provides."

"Until now, patient diary solutions and vendors have been experimental and limited in scope and implementation," said Paul Bleicher, Chairman and CSO of Phase Forward. "With the introduction of the InForm NetDiary system, we are making available a robust solution that is scalable, can be wireless, and is designed from the start for integration with Internet clinical trials. The InForm NetDiary system is the first solution to offer the type of patient diary that the pharmaceutical industry demands."

The InForm NetDiary system is designed to automatically alert patients to capture important events and data and flags data inaccuracies and inconsistencies for correction in real time. When uploaded to a server, the data is immediately available to the sponsors of the clinical trial program, and the investigators who are responsible for patient safety.

The partnering companies claim the InForm NetDiary system provides more accurate, contemporaneous, and compliant patient-entered data, enabling better patient monitoring, clinical trial decision making, and faster data analysis. Patient data is time and data stamped in the system, so that compliance can be actively monitored.
