TripIt has added cruises to its online travel organiser and social travel service.

The free personal travel organiser can automatically process confirmation emails for cruises booked on Travelocity or directly with Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises and other top cruise lines.

"Planning cruise vacations can be deceptively complex. In addition to booking the cruise, many travelers also need to organise travel before and after the cruise, activities at various ports-of-call, and even extending their cruises with add-on vacations," said Gregg Brockway, TripIt co-founder and president. "TripIt organises all these details in one itinerary, automatically adds useful information and makes is easy to share with family and friends. Our goal is to take care of the details so people can spend more timing enjoying their vacations."

On demand for cruise travel, the company shared that the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) estimates more than 12.8 million cruise passengers worldwide for 2008 – and cruise lines plan to add more than 35 news ships in the next four years. In addition, based on a passenger survey reported by CLIA, approximately 40% of embarking cruise passengers also stayed one or more nights before or after their cruise.
