Technology consultancy Genesys has published its 2006/07 Travel Agency Technology Review, running over 140 pages, providing the low-down on over 50 technology suppliers and their products.

Paul Richer, senior partner, Genesys said the latest technology available to travel agents reflects the increasing sophistication of running a successful agency.

“Whilst once upon a time it may have been enough for agents to simply be experts in travel, in order to really prosper in today’s market they also need a firm grasp of technology and the opportunities that this brings. It is no longer enough to sit in one’s high street shop waiting for customers to come in the door. Those agents that are thriving are reaching out across the Web, often packaging their own products rather than relying on earning a living from dwindling tour operator commissions. With the increased popularity of dynamic packaging and with the trend towards agents specialising in particular product areas, they are closing-in on tour operators’ market space, in some cases competing head-to-head,” said Richer.

According to the consultancy, systems reviewed confirm the latest technology trends with many suppliers offering dynamic packaging technology, content management systems and online booking engines to power agency websites.

The review has been sponsored by Comtec and Worldspan. The review is on-sale at £59.50 plus shipping and can be ordered directly from Genesys’ Web site at www.genesys.net.
