Dolphin Dynamics Ltd has incorporated a new supplier preferencing option into FlightScanner to facilitate travel companies booking with airline suppliers with whom the agency has a preferred commercial relationship.

Preferencing can be applied across all the supported sales channels, including the web or via a GDS.

Dolphin Dynamics president Roberto Da Re said many travel companies are now increasingly focusing on nurturing specific commercial relationships and are implementing directional selling to support their preferred supplier relationships.

“As part of our continuous commitment towards transforming FlightScanner into a sophisticated point of sale system, FlightScanner can assist this process by providing the technology that allows our customers to have a stricter control over their point of sale activity,” he said.

According to the company, the supplier preferencing functionality allows travel companies to control what they want to sell and when, by enabling administrators to rank suppliers and control the order in which flight search results are displayed to their travel consultants and to suppress specific suppliers altogether.

It also added that setting these preferences helps travel companies to meet contracted volume commitments and commercial incentives targets. By allowing them to control what is sold, they can also choose to push higher margin suppliers and thereby improve profits.

As shown by a recent survey of Triton members which revealed that if companies had all backed the preferred suppliers, members' profitability would have increased by 50 percent, stated the company.

The supplier preferencing in FlightScanner works across all data sources, including low cost airlines, GDS and charter flights. Furthermore, the functionality also supports seasonal directional selling, allowing the supplier ranking to be altered based on defined date bands to accommodate special offers or distressed inventory.

The supplier preferencing concept is also being incorporated into the recently announced Dolphin TravelScanner system to support the same ability across all products beyond air.
