Ethical Corporation, the leading global business intelligence provider, has released details of the stories covered in the October 2010 edition of Ethical Corporation's print magazine.

October 2010's Special Briefing section focuses on how to engage your colleagues in CR and the opportunities and benefits in doing so.

Firstly we look at how to successfully engage colleagues across a company about CR and sustainability.

Next, drawing upon research, we look at whether employees are a company’s most sceptical group. Using case studies, we then suggest techniques, software and tips that companies can use to engage their colleagues.

Finally we look at what the future is for companies using intrepreneurs; the opportunities for innovation, why Vodafone’s innovation fund hasn’t always worked and whether Google’s mandatory innovation time is a better model.

October’s Strategy and Management section reviews in detail the problems at business associations/CR specialists, focussing on BiTC, IBLF, AccountAbility, CSR Europe, ETI, Global Compact. There will also be an article on Makani Power the high-altitude wind power pioneers with analysis of the history of the company, its products and why the company attracts funding. There will also be an in-depth interview with the founder of Makani Power.

Next in the series of classic responsible business stories we look at Toyota’s recent safety recall. How did a car company with such a good safety image end up in such a crisis?

Was it a dash for growth, as the company head Akio Toyoda said, that lead to a lowering of quality?

How did Toyota react both initially and laterally? Is Toyota now taking no chances as it tries to rebuild its reputation? And, very importantly, what can other companies learn from this?

This month’s Country Briefing will focus on the US and how it is implementing CR at all levels.

The briefing will look at the history of corporate responsibility in the US, how an enlightened few companies are carrying the CR flag, case studies of Fedex, Intel and Green Mountain Coffee, and the success of both international and domestic NGOs.

There will also be an analysis of how the US (federal, state and local) government and legislation affect corporate responsibility sustainable business, the influence of international authorities and whether companies or the authorities are more progressive in terms of CR.

Our EthicsWatch section will consist of a detailed analysis of the new Forum for the Future development strategy report and how it will help both community and business development in low-income countries.

The second section considers integrated reporting; the arguments for integrating all corporate reporting and the main pitfalls to avoid.

Next we delve into Eco Index for apparel and how it’s become a common code for environmental and social impacts and is backed by 100 brands, including; Levi Strauss, Nike and Target, as well as outdoor-wear makers like Brooks Sports, Adidas AG, Timberland, REI, and Patagonia.

Finally we’ll review Vedanta’s Indian bauxite mine and how the saga is still rumbling on. The piece will offer key lessons for other companies to take from this saga, specifically how Vedanta could have improved its stakeholder engagement.

In addition there will be a review of GE’s and SAP’s reports plus all the usual comment and analysis from our regular columnists.
