VP of CSR, Walgreens Boots Alliance
Richard has spent the past 35 years working for a range of Companies on all aspects of the CSR agenda.
The early part of his career was spent in Banking before becoming involved in CSR after the Inner City riots of the early 1980s. After this involvement he held CSR related positions at HSBC, TSB, British Aerospace and ran his own CSR consultancy for five years.
In 2003 he joined Boots and became responsible for all the Company’s CSR activities. Following the merger between Boots and Alliance UniChem and the subsequent Private Equity Buy Out he was appointed Director of CSR.
2014 saw the creation of Walgreens Boots Alliance following the merger between Walgreens in the USA and Alliance Boots. He now has responsibility for CSR globally for this new enterprise.
Head of Brand, Nokia
Christine Diamente is Head of Brand at Nokia, a role she has held since January 2016, leading brand strategy, identity, design, experience and operations B2B and B2C to be one of the world’s top brands. Previously, prior to its acquisition by Nokia, she was Head of Brand and Corporate Sustainability at Alcatel-Lucent (2011-15). During this period, the company was the recipient of numerous industry awards for both its brand and particularly its sustainability performance.
With over 20 years’ experience in the high tech sector, Christine has held a number of other roles focused on global reputation building including Head of European Affairs for Alcatel and Alcatel-Lucent and Head of Corporate Relations managing activities with the World Economic Forum. She also served on industry boards including founding member and Chair of the Telecoms Industry Dialogue for Human Rights (now GNI), Board Member of European Internet Foundation (EIF), ex-officio member of the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation and today she is an advisory board member of Ethical Corporation in the UK.
A passionate global traveler, Christine currently resides in the UK with her husband and their 11 year old daughter.
John D. Edelman
Managing Director, Global Engagement and Corporate Responsibility, Edelman
John Edelman was appointed in 2010 as Managing Director, Global Engagement and Corporate Responsibility, a new position focused on Edelman’s global citizenship, sustainability, and corporate responsibility. He also serves as President of the DJ Edelman Family Foundation.
Edelman leads the firm’s global citizenship initiatives including corporate social responsibility, volunteerism, corporate philanthropy, community engagement, supplier and partnership engagement, environmental sustainability, and corporate reporting. He co-leads the Global Diversity Advisory Group with Claudia Patton, Chief Talent Officer.
Prior to his new appointment, he had served as Managing Director, Global Human Resources since 1995 overseeing global human resources professional staff and operations.
The Holmes Group awarded the 2012 Silver Sabre for PR Agency Citizenship to Edelman. Edelman won a PRSA Silver Anvil in 2000 for excellence in Internal Communication, in recognition of the firm’s global launch of the company’s mission, vision, and values program.
Earlier, he served as Vice President and General Manager in the Edelman office in Dallas. He was a delegate on the Dallas Chamber of Commerce Trade Mission to Japan.
Edelman holds a Master’s degree in Management (MM) in marketing and public management from Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in political science from Brown University.
He currently is a member of the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship and the Advisory Council for the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).

Janice Lao, ESG Director, Helen of Troy
Janice Lao is both an Environmental Scientist and a Development Economist, with more than 15 years experience in the sustainability field which she gained working at companies such as Cathay Pacific, MTR and HSH. She currently works as ESG Director at Helen of Troy, based in Texas, USA.
She has been multi-awarded internationally for her work in sustainability, receiving the 2019 Woman in Sustainable Leadership Award by the US-based gb&d magazine, being named by US-based Greenbiz as one of 25 most influential women working on climate change and awarded the 2019 Edie Sustainability Leader of the Year Award.
Director of the Doughty Centre for Corporate Responsibility at the Cranfield School of Management, Cranfield University
David Grayson, C.B.E. is director of the Doughty Centre for Corporate Responsibility at the Cranfield School of Management, Cranfield University. David joined Cranfield as director of the new Doughty Centre for Corporate Responsibility in April 2007, after a thirty year career as a social entrepreneur and campaigner for responsible business, diversity, and small business development. This included founding Project North East which has now worked in more than 60 countries around the world; being the founding CEO of the Prince's Youth Business Trust and serving as a joint managing-director of Business in the Community.
David has an Honorary Dotorate of Law from London South Bank University and was a visiting Senior Fellow at the CSR Initiative of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard (2005-10);
He has served on various charity and public sector boards over the past 20 plus years. These have included the boards of the National Co-operative Development Agency, The Prince of Wales' Innovation Trust and the Strategic Rail Authority.
He chaired the National Disability Council and the Business Link Accreditation Board; in each case appointed by the Major Government and re-appointed by the Blair administration.
He is currently chairman of the national charity Carers UK championing the role of 6.5million Britons caring for a loved one; and is a former chairman of one of the UK's larger social enterprises and largest eldercare providers, Housing 21(www.housing21.co.uk) during which the organisation made corporate history by becoming the first-ever not-for-profit successfully to acquire a publicly quoted group of companies. David received an OBE for services to industry in 1994 and a CBE for services to disability in 1999.
The Guardian has recently named David as one of the top ten tweeters on sustainable leadership alongside Al Gore, Tim Cook - CEO of Apple, Sheryl Sandberg - Facebook's COO and Kumi Naidoo - the Heed of Greenpeace International.
Director and Principal Sustainability Consultant, PIE Strategy Limited
Natalie Chan is Director and Principal Sustainability Consultant of PIE Strategy Limited, a boutique consultancy that specialises in helping companies develop and integrate bespoke sustainability strategies and implementation frameworks that align with their businesses and brands.
Natalie has close to 15 years of experience in corporate responsibility and sustainability management. She worked at the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels where she led the Group’s global strategy on corporate responsibility and sustainability. Reporting to the CEO, Natalie worked with HSH’s management teams around the world in setting up the sustainability function and devising the Group’s long-term vision for sustainable luxury. In her five-year tenure with HSH, she led the Group to become a Global Reporting Initiative’s G4 Pioneer and part of CDP’s Climate Disclosure Leadership Index for the region in 2014.
Prior to HSH, Natalie was with Swire Pacific Group, managing group‐level corporate responsibility policies and strategies. Swire is one of Hong Kong’s leading listed companies, with diversified interests in five operating divisions: Property, Aviation, Beverages, Marine Services and Trading & Industrial. She also served as Hong Kong staffer at APEC Business Advisory Council during her tenure with Hong Kong Trade Development Council, a quasi-government body promoting external trade for Hong Kong.
Natalie serves on a number of government and industry committees in the area of sustainability and social responsibility. She is a Certified Carbon Auditor of The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), and holds a Master’s degree in Corporate Environmental Governance from the University of Hong Kong.
Director, Centre for Business Transformation, University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership
Aris is responsible for CISL’s open executive education programmes where he helps companies understand the implications and possibilities that sustainability creates for business. He is the global director for The Prince of Wales's Business & Sustainability Programme (BSP) which trains approximately 150 leaders from some of the world’s most influential organisations on global sustainability trends every year. Aris also contributes to CISL’s work on low-carbon transition, resource security, sustainable finance and new business models.
He was previously a senior advisor at the pioneering think-tank AccountAbility working at the forefront of strategy, engagement, governance and innovation for sustainable business. He has collaborated with the IFC and the UN Global Compact to promote sustainable finance and sustainable business in emerging markets, with particular focus in Brazil and India.
He is a trained economist and journalist and began his career writing for an international news department and reporting on social tensions in Greece.
Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, London Business School
Prof. Ioannou is a strategy scholar whose research focuses on Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). More specifically, he seeks to understand whether, how, and the extent to which the modern business organization contributes towards building a sustainable future. His academic work evolves around two main themes: a) understanding how investment analysts, and the public equity markets, perceive, evaluate and react to corporate engagement with, and integration of, environmental and social issues into strategy and b) understanding the multiple factors (e.g. institutional, regulatory, behavioural) that may affect, drive or hinder, the corporate decision to adopt environmentally and socially responsible strategies.
Prof. Ioannou regularly publishes in top-tier peer-reviewed academic journals including the Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, The Accounting Review and the Journal of International Business Studies. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the Strategic Management Journal and in 2015 received an Outstanding Editorial Board Member Award for his service. He is also active on social media and a frequent contributor to articles in the popular and managerial press including outlets such as the Financial Times, The Guardian, and Forbes. In further recognition of his impactful work, Prof. Ioannou has been shortlisted for the Future Thinker Award of Thinkers50, the first-ever global ranking of management thinkers whose mission is to recognize ideas that have the power to change the world.
President and CEO, Shift
Caroline Rees is the President and Co-Founder of Shift, the leading center of expertise on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. At Shift, Caroline leads strategic development and drives thought leadership on key challenges and opportunities in advancing corporate respect for human rights. Prior to founding Shift, Caroline was a lead advisor to Professor John Ruggie during his mandate to develop the UN Guiding Principles as Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General. From 2009 to 2011 she was Director of the Governance and Accountability Program at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative. Caroline also spent 14 years as a British diplomat where her career covered Iran, Slovakia, and the European Union, as well as the UN Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council. She is a graduate of Oxford University and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
Director, Human Rights and Global Supply Chain Responsibility
Annukka Dickens leads HP’s Human Rights and Supply Chain Responsibility team. She is responsible for driving the overall vision and strategy of the company human rights and supply chain social responsibility program, including cross-company human rights risk assessment and management, supplier environmental performance and fair and ethical treatment of workers. She manages end-to-end supplier assessments, auditing, continuous improvement processes and capability-building programs. HP’s supply chain responsibility program is recognized as industry leading built on principles of respecting human rights, empowering workers and improving supplier environmental performance across one of the largest supply chains in the IT industry.
Annukka joined HP’s Sustainability function in 2000 and during this time she has lived and worked in 4 different continents leading social and environmental responsibility compliance, market access, customer and partner engagement programs impacting supply chain operations, product design, packaging and product recycling. Annukka has wide ranging experience in working with multi-stakeholder groups, including government, industry and civil society, addressing broad sustainability issues in the electronics industry.
Annukka serves in the Advisory Board for Social Accountability International (SAI). SAI is an international non-governmental, multi-stakeholder organization dedicated to improving workplaces and communities by developing and implementing socially responsible standards. Annukka also serves in the Design Team of Green America’s Clean Electronics Production Network. Annukka was born in Finland and now lives in California, US. She holds an Environmental Engineering (BEng.) degree from Finland and a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Environmental Strategy from the University of Surrey in the UK.
Global Vice President for Integrated Social Sustainability
Marcela Manubens is Global Vice President for Integrated Social Sustainability at Unilever. She joined in 2013 and led the Social Impact strategy and the expansion of the USLP Enhancing Livelihoods ambitions, specifically driving Unilever agendas on Human Rights and Women’s Empowerment. In 2016, her role was expanded to assume new responsibility for all areas of Supply Chain Social Sustainability in addition to continue leading its human rights agenda.
Prior to joining Unilever, Ms Manubens was Corporate Social Responsibility Officer at PVH Corp., notably establishing one of the first Human Rights and Social Responsibility programmes in the early 1990s. Ms Manubens participated in initiatives to eradicate sweatshops and advance human rights. She was a member of the Fair Labour Association (FLA) Board of Directors and its Executive Committee and chaired the Board of Global Social Compliance Programme (GSCP) for three years. Ms Manubens gave testimony in the United States Congress as an expert witness upon the invitation of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus and represented U.S. business in the launching of the Global Report on Child Labour by the ILO at the United Nations. In September 2013 she spoke alongside the UK Foreign Secretary and the UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills at the unveiling of the UK Action Plan to implement the UN Guiding Principles.
Ms Manubens taught Business and Human Rights at Columbia University, New York. She has been a Board, Association and Advisory Group member on various organizations such the Consumer Good’s Forum Social Sustainability Committee, Vice-Chair of the WEF Council on Human Rights; Ethical Tea Partnership; Hillary Clinton's International Council on Women’s Business Leadership (ICWBL) and the Advisory Group on Human Rights to the UK Foreign Secretary.
