Electrolux Selects GT Nexus as Collaborative Cloud-Based Global Freight Spend Management Platform

Ability to rapidly adapt to business demand and control deviation from buying strategies across global ocean and air freight network are key value drivers

GT Nexus announced today that it has been selected by Electrolux to provide a cloud technology platform that will automate the closed loop global freight spend management process for the leading appliance manufacturer. Delivered as a service over the Internet, the platform will optimize the entire purchase-to-pay lifecycle for air and ocean transportation.

Electrolux is a global leader in household appliances and appliances for professional use, selling more than 40 million products to customers in more than 150 markets every year. Electrolux products include refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, cookers and air conditioners sold under esteemed brands such as Electrolux, AEG, Zanussi, Eureka and Frigidaire. In 2012 Electrolux had sales of SEK 110 billion and 61,000 employees.

“We needed better technology to support our move from normal annual and spot buying to an ongoing, strategic freight management approach,” explained Bjorn Vang Jensen, Vice President Purchasing, Global Logistics at Electrolux. “GT Nexus connects us with our transport service providers and allows everyone to see and act on a common set of shared rate information and related transactions in the cloud. This collaboration will help us maintain strong, strategic partnerships with our providers.”

“We are pleased to add Electrolux to the community of global companies that use our cloud supply chain platform,” said Andy Stinnes, MD Europe and EVP, Products and Strategy at GT Nexus. “With GT Nexus, Electrolux extends its technology capabilities into the cloud, and leverages a platform that has already been adopted by thousands of other companies around the globe.”

The GT Nexus Transportation Sourcing capabilities add standardization and partner collaboration into the end-to-end spend management process from initial procurement, through allocation optimization, contract management, freight audit and final payment.  A business intelligence layer sits on top of the information platform that provides Electrolux with advanced analytics and real-time performance monitoring dashboards.

With a long, complex global supply chain involving a diverse mix of import and export trade lanes, reducing transportation cost is important, but it’s not the only driver for Electrolux. GT Nexus provides the ability to identify options and evaluate the trade-offs between service and cost, which is key.  Also, with its ability to track actual shipments as they occur and compare them against contracted allocations in an integrated strategic dashboard, GT Nexus offers Electrolux the environment for freight procurement teams to control and adjust their buying strategies in real time.

The entire platform is being delivered to Electrolux as a cloud technology service. The platform is shared by thousands of other companies and supply chain partners.
