Aldi partner ramps up e-commerce

Armstrong Logistics looking to double handling capacity in the UK

Armstrong Logistics, Aldi’s long-term logistics partner in the UK, has launched a home-delivery division and is planning to increase warehouse space by 70%, double its pallet-handling capacity and invest in staff. Responding to the Covid-19-induced transformation of the UK retail sector, the company said its e-commerce investment is a “natural evolvement of our business”.

The pandemic has seen the company handle a 300% spike in volume while still maintaining its usual on-time delivery rate. The e-commerce division of the Leicestershire-based company is expected to become a significant part of its overall business but it is not clear whether this move indicates a similar change of focus for Aldi.

During the pandemic Armstrong Logistics has picked, packed and delivered more than 30,000 food parcels containing a range of 22 staple products for Aldi, aimed at its vulnerable customers.
