MIAMI, May 7, 2015: DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist within Deutsche Post DHL Group, announces it is teaming up with industry experts for the eighth consecutive year on its DHL University program. The program, which included the participation of more than 310 customers in 2014, is designed to engage logistics professionals in academic discussions and provide industry updates and best practices on topics such as international trade, regulation modifications and customs procedures, as well as networking opportunities. For 2015, approximately 13 DHL University events are planned in: Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, the U.S. and Venezuela.

These events are jointly organized for DHL customers by DHL and a variety of educational institutions, governmental organizations and/or renowned third party contributors. The events, which are free of charge, are put together based on customer feedback on which topics interest them and are presented by thought leaders in their communities, as well as special guests from abroad.

“Now in its eighth year, DHL University serves as a venue where ideas and concerns can be exchanged freely, and information on changes in trade can be shared,” said Mathieu Floreani, CEO for DHL Global Forwarding, Americas. “Survey results have shown DHL University provides a platform for high-caliber speakers to share their knowledge with our customers on topics related to logistics trends across various industry sectors for the purpose of best practice adoption and further trade development.”

In 2014, 15 events took place: five in Colombia, three in Chile, three in the U.S. and one in Brazil, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama each. The 2014 discussion topics varied, each tailored to the country in which the specific meeting was organized. Topics included changes in customs regulations, process improvement trainings, the current state of the ocean freight industry, pharmaceutical shipping, export documentation, key practices for ensuring business success and meeting authorized economic operator (AEO) standards.

Plans for 2015 topics include: Free Trade Agreements, best practices for proper Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification and declaration of customs value, among others.

DHL University was established in 2007 and is present in the U.S. and in all the Latin American countries where DHL operates. Since its founding, the program has seen extensive customer participation and helped demonstrate DHL’s expertise in logistics topics, as well as its reliability as a conduit of information regarding local and global issues, innovations and best practices. The DHL University model has been shared across the DHL network and has been adopted by other business units. It is seen as a tool for best practices and knowledge exchange.
