Brexit import check delays could cause further problems

A possible delay in import checks is leaving uncertainty for those in the industry

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s apparent consideration to delay the introduction of import checks from goods arriving into the UK from the EU could cause further issues, says Logistics UK’s Head of International Policy, Sarah Laouadi.

Laouadi says further delays from the planned start date in July 2022 will send mixed signals to companies which have been told to get ready for new border checks over the last months, and certainty is instead needed.

The introduction of checks has already been delayed three times. Laouadi does concede, however, that there is still much work to be done with regard to the Norther Ireland Protocol.
