Norbert Dentressangle Invests in Depot Network

Norbert Dentressangle is expanding its Bury St Edmunds distribution centre to incorporate a local platform for its Specialist Services operation, which makes non-standard deliveries of high value, fragile, bulky or time sensitive consignments.

By creating the new platform at the Suffolk site, Norbert Dentressangle will provide customers with enhanced deliveries across the East of England region.

The latest investment builds on the opening of a similar centre at its Wakefield, West Yorkshire, site in March, as Norbert Dentressangle develops its transport infrastructure to meet growing demand.

“It’s all about supporting our technology and high care customers, which often require tailored services, and enhancing our national infrastructure to establish a robust platform that underpins our best in class offering,” explained Dan Myers, Managing Director at Norbert Dentressangle Transport and Distribution UK.

The new sites will play a key role in the development of the company’s two-man operations, which handle bulky or sensitive items such as air conditioning, professional catering and refrigeration, vending and telecommunications equipment.

The Bury St Edmunds 55,000 sq ft (5,110 sq m) facility has 16,000 sq ft (1,500 sq m) of warehousing and excellent transport links East to West via the A14 and A11. It also has potential for significant future expansion.

Dave Finnie, Director of Dedicated Contracts and Specialist Services at Norbert Dentressangle Transport and Distribution UK, added: “Towards the end of April the new operational platform at Bury St Edmunds will go live with the specific objective of improving our geographic coverage in East Anglia.

“The expanded service will particularly support our customers throughout Norwich, Ipswich and surrounding areas by providing reduced transit times and enhance our early morning delivery capability.”

Bury St Edmunds is the fourth site the company has invested in for its Specialist Services business in the last three years. As well as Wakefield, it has opened a new facility at Taunton, Somerset, in 2013, followed last year with a new national distribution centre at Brownhills, near Walsall.
