Tesco plans installation of more wind turbines

Continuing with its plans to install wind turbines across the country, supermarket giant Tesco is now reportedly planning to put up 10 wind turbines to provide eco-friendly energy to power its Hampton store.

The store has drawn up the proposals for four new turbines to be built on the site, reported peterboroughtoday.co.uk. If the turbines, each standing at 10.6 metres high, with a diameter of 3.3 metres, are given the go ahead, will help power the supermarket, with each turbine producing six kilowatts of electricity. The Ropatec turbines will cut the amount of carbon dioxide created by the supermarket by a total of 26.8 tonnes every year.

The report highlighted that the turbines were first introduced at a Tesco supermarket in Newton Aycliffe in the North East of England. Already 27 turbines have been installed at 19 different supermarkets across the country.

Earlier this year, it was shared that plans by Tesco to build a 10m high wind turbine in a Dorset town had been approved by planners despite protests.

It had also revealed plans for two wind turbines at its Chesterfield Road South store in Mansfield recently. The company has applied for planning permission for the two 10.6m-high micro wind turbines at its newest store in Mansfield as part of a £100m renewable energy programme across stores nationwide.
