Scotland gets ready for its first offshore wind farm

Scotland’s first offshore wind farm is to soon start generating electricity. The first of 60 turbines that make up E.ON’s Robin Rigg wind farm in the Solway Firth will be connected to the national grid within days, according to a report filed by scotsman.com.

Ian Johnson, senior project manager for Robin Rigg, reportedly said that engineers were waiting for a weather window to connect the first turbine, which would happen before the end of July.

Located 9km out to sea in the Solway Firth, between England and Scotland, Robin Rigg will have 60 turbines once completed and a 180MW capacity.

Recently, marine mapping from SeaZone shared that it is helping E.ON plan and deliver offshore wind farm projects across the UK. Using HydroSpatial, SeaZone’s digital marine map, E.ON has undertaken a comprehensive assessment of UK’s coastal areas to assess the potential for offshore wind farm developments in the UK and to get a better understanding of the most suitable locations.
