National Grid Offshore, Siemens Wind Power, Vattenfall, European Investment Bank, The Crown Estate and more meet in Copenhagen

Today marks the launch of the inaugural Offshore Wind Energy in Europe conference that will take place on 7th & 8th April 2010, where the world’s leading offshore wind energy developers will gather to compare notes on constructing, connecting and building profitable wind farms in Europe.

The COP15 stalemate has generated a great deal of uncertainty over the future of the low carbon economy.

What remains certain, however, is that a large number of offshore wind projects in the North Sea are on-target for completion over the next decade.

Among existing European offshore wind farms are notable successes, which provide a blueprint for best practice and guidance.

There are also several offshore wind projects that have encountered unforeseen problems in their construction, installation and commissioning.

In order to enhance wind energy’s credibility as a reliable investment, lessons taken from both the successful and the beleaguered projects must be applied to pipeline projects to ensure sustained growth of the wind energy sector.

The offshore wind industry has the potential to be a key driver of the green economy. So it is with great expectation that a forum has been created in which project developers can meet face-to-face with the industry experts who have confronted the challenges and overcome them.

The conference will bring together Europe’s leading offshore wind investors, led by the European Investment Bank.

The aim is to provide the investors’ perspective, while outlining the range of financing options available to developers. By establishing clear ground rules, wind energy developers will better understand the fundamentals that make their projects more bankable in the eyes of the investors.

In addition there will be presentations, panel debates and interactive discussion groups with world leading offshore wind turbine manufacturers, Siemens Wind Power, as well as case studies from the operator Vattenfall who have over 20 years of hands-on experience in the field.
