Milestone for Spain’s first offshore turbine

Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa has shared that its prototype offshore turbine installed in Arinaga Quay, in Canary Islands, achieved record-high power generation for wind turbines earlier this month.

The G128-5.0 MW Offshore produced 118.05 MWh of electricity, surpassing the previous record (of 107.82 MWh), similarly achieved by the G128-4.5 MW turbine.

It is the first offshore turbine installed in Spain, according to the company. Gamesa highlighted that such performance shows turbine’s potential to cope up with tough wind conditions for more than 24 hours at a stretch without suffering any incident.

The G128-5.0 MW wind turbine has a rotor with a diameter of 128m and a total height of 154m.
