Gamesa to strengthen its presence in Mexico

Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica has signed a deal with Turbo Power Baja Energy for five Gamesa G87-2.0 MW wind turbines, amounting to the installation of a power output of 10 MW.

These wind turbines will be destined to the Rumorosa wind farm located in the State of Baja California. The scope of the agreement includes the supply of the wind turbines, their installation and start-up, as well as their operation and maintenance.

Assembly work is expected to commence in the second half of 2009.

This agreement, the first one between the two companies, was reached after Turbo Power Baja Energy was awarded the first phase of an international tender initiated by the Baja California State Government. In Mexico, Gamesa has already installed 186 MW.

Gamesa sold a total of 814MW between January and March to equal activity levels in the first quarter of 2008, 80% of which were destined to international markets. The company says its positioning is continuing to improve in regions where ambitious stimulus and wind energy development plans have been approved with 700MW of new capacity coming on-stream in 2010.

Last month, Gamesa and China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Co. Ltd. reached an agreement for the development of wind projects in Shandong province, located in the northeast of China, totalling 253 MW through the period of 2009-2011. The wind turbine generators will be Gamesa G5x 850kW, manufactured in Gamesa’s production facilities in Tianjin.
