Financial powerhouses carve out funding solutions for Europe's offshore wind energy sector

Dexia Credit, the European Investment Bank, Eksport Kredit Fonden, CleanWorldCapital, Mainstream Renewable Power and more will meet with wind energy developers to define how to make offshore wind energy projects bankable.

WindEnergyUpdate confirms the attendance of some of the world’s leading experts on offshore wind energy finance at its inaugural Offshore Wind Energy in Europe conference.

A large number of offshore wind projects in the North Sea are on-target for completion over the next decade.

The conference, which is to take place on 7th & 8th April 2010 in Copenhagen, Denmark, will bring together the world’s leading offshore wind energy developers to compare notes on constructing, connecting and building profitable wind farms in Europe.

The two day event will now have a strong focus on making future offshore wind energy projects profitable.

“In order to enhance wind energy’s credibility as a reliable investment, lessons taken from both the successful and the beleaguered projects must be applied to pipeline projects to ensure sustained growth of the wind energy sector”, says Tom Evans, Wind Energy Update director

According to a recent Emerging Energy Research report, with over 30 GW in the pipeline at different development stages and over 3.2 GW under construction, a key focus for the European offshore wind market should be on addressing specific economic, technical, and construction risks associated with the final phase of several projects.

The conference will bring together Europe’s leading offshore wind investors, led by the European Investment Bank. The aim is to provide the investors’ perspective, while outlining the range of financing options available to developers.

“By establishing clear ground rules, wind energy developers will better understand the fundamentals that make their projects more bankable in the eyes of the investors,” says  Evans.

In addition there will be presentations, panel debates and interactive discussion groups with world leading offshore wind turbine manufacturers, Siemens Wind Power, as well as case studies from REpower Systems AG who have many years of hands-on experience in the field with Alpha Ventus being a notable success story.
