Enel Green Power signs agreement for wind power projects

Enel Green Power (EGP) has signed an agreement with Eurus Energy Europe to acquire the rights to 50 percent of wind power projects with an installed capacity of up to 400 MW.

The wind power projects are being developed at sites in Calabria.

The construction of these wind facilities will significantly increase the installed wind power capacity of EGP in Italy. At the end of 2008, EGP’s installed wind power capacity in the country had risen to 380 MW.

Enel Green Power S.p.A., founded in December 2008, has an installed capacity of approximately 4,500 MW, with 500 plants in operation or under construction throughout the world. One of the EGP’s strengths is its diversified generation technology portfolio, with total installed capacity divided among run-of-river hydro (2,500 MW), geothermal (700 MW), wind (1,200 MW), solar and biomass. This mix enables a higher-than-average, close to 50 percent, load factor, as well as a lower-than-average, below 30 percent, dependence on incentive schemes.

Its 2009-2013 Business Plan provides for an increase in installed capacity of about 1,900 MW, which is expected to rise from the current capacity of about 4,500 MW to about 6,400 MW in 2013, mostly through the wind power segment (+1,600 MW). Capital expenditure to support this expansion is expected to total 3.7 billion euros.

Eurus Energy Europe B.V., a company wholly owned by Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation - a joint venture owned by Tokyo Electric Power Company and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, has over 1,700 MW of installed capacity.
