Dong, Siemens and A2SEAA install the first turbine

Denmark-based Dong Energy, Siemens and A2SEA have installed the first turbine at the Horns Rev-2 offshore wind farm in the North Sea.

As per the information available, later this year, when the farm is to be inaugurated, it will be the world’s biggest offshore wind farm.

The 91 turbines constituting the wind farm will have a total net installed capacity of 209MW, making it possible to supply a volume of CO2-free power equivalent to the consumption of more than 200,000 households.

The wind farm at Horns Rev-2 will have an elevation 114.5 metres and its foundation will reach 30-40 metres below sea level. The turbines will have a rotor diameter of 93 metres and the combined output capacity will be 209 MW. The wind farm will cover an area of just under 35 km2 situated 30-40 km off the west coast of Denmark.

Several Danish enterprises like Novozymes, Novo Nordisk and KMD and municipalities of Albertslund, Ballerup, Fredericia and Kalundborg have agreed to purchase power from the turbines.

The installation was carried out using the installation vessel Sea Power and was completed after 12 hours.
