The Brighton coast identified as a possible site for wind farm

The UK government has identified a number of potential offshore wind farms to increase its capacity to generate renewable energy. In this context, it has emerged that the Brighton coast has been identified as a possible site for development of the same and, subject to final decision and granting of a contract, wind farm turbines could be situated 11 miles from Beachy Head.

This wind farm, one of nine currently being considered by the government, would be made up of 100 turbines which together could provide up to 500 MW of electricity - enough power for an incredible 250,000 households.

The Eastbourne Borough Council is supporting this scheme, which would see a wind farm 11 miles off the town’s coastline.

Eastbourne MP Nigel Waterson, according to ryeandbattleobserver.co.uk, reportedly said, “I am surprised the Borough Council is giving its full support at such an early stage. Of course, we need to boost renewable energy, and one such source is wind power. But there are likely to be huge issues relating to viability, the effect on bird and sea life, as well as navigational safety.”
