Bernard Matthews seeks approval for five wind turbines

Bernard Matthews has applied for planning permission for five wind turbines in Suffolk.

The company has filed an application with Waveney District Council seeking approval to install five wind turbines at a former airfield at Holton, near Halesworth, Suffolk, UK.

The construction and installation cost of the wind turbines will be met by a joint venture between Bernard Matthews and Climate Change Capital.

Earlier this year, the company had shared that it had entered into a consultation process on three sites in Norfolk and Suffolk. As part of its £20m plan, the sites being considered are Weston Longville, Pickenham and Holton. In terms of the number of wind turbines, there are plans for five at Holton, two at Pickenham and two at Weston Longville. At Holton in Suffolk, the turbines being proposed are 100m tall at the tip of the blade. The tower will be between 59m and 65m tall, with the rotor between 70m and 82m in diameter.

As per the information available, plans to build two turbines near the company’s headquarters at Weston Longville, north of Norwich, were said to still be in the “early stages,” while plans to build two close to an existing windfarm at North Pickenham in mid Norfolk are expected to be submitted in the coming months.

At Pickenham, the turbines will be 125m to the tip of the blade to blend with those already operating on adjacent to the site.
