Greg Barker and Michael Fallon have left the UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change and have been replaced by Amber Rudd and Matthew Hancock as climate change minister and energy minister respectively.

Many in the energy industry, especially those involved in the renewable energy sector see the departure of Barker as leaving a big hole in government.

On Rudd’s appointment, Paul King, chief executive at UKGBC, and Maria McCaffery, chief executive of Renewable UK, have expressed in the utility press that they are eager for work on energy policy to continue, and that it will be beneficial that Hancock attend cabinet meetings.

Policies that warrant attention include the promised mandatory energy performance standards for some of the UK’s most inefficient buildings.
