Tekniker-IK4 chosen for Abengoa solar thermal energy project

Abengoa has chosen Tekniker-IK4 for the "greater part" of the R+D of its main solar energy project.

According to www.basqueresearch.com, the centre, based in the industrial town of Eibar in the Basque province of Gipuzkoa, will carry out technological developments to the value of €2 million within the framework of the Cenit ConSOLI+Da project.

The project focuses on creating significant R&D infrastructure to consolidate Spain's position in high-CSP  technologies.

The participation of Tekniker-IK4 focuses on the development of Dish-Stirling systems.

In August this year, Abengoa Solar shared that the ConSOLI+Da project, which the company is heading up, had been selected within the Cenit programme, managed by CDTI. The project is intended to contemplate financing of major integrated industrial research projects. The project entails an investment of €24 million.

The ConSOLI+Da project, developed by a large consortium made up of private companies and public research institutions, will have a four-year duration. Abengoa Solar is acting as the driving force, giving a significant boost to developing and improving concentrating solar power technologies.
