Sopogy unveils rooftop trough technology

Sopogy delivers a cost effective, space efficient, and contractor friendly solution for concentrating solar power to the commercial and industrial facility.

Anaheim, CA. Sopogy, Inc. will unveil its newest MicroCSP™ parabolic trough solar concentrator called “SopoFlare™” at Solar Power International 2009 in Anaheim, California Tuesday October 27, 2009 at 10:00am at the Anaheim Convention Center, Booth 3238. Key Sopogy executives will be present to answer questions immediately following the unveiling.  Interviews will be available in person or by appointment (contact Zeina Jafar at zjafar@sopogy.com or 808-234-4494).

SopoFlare combines the revolutionary features and applications of Sopogy’s award winning SopoNova™ 4.0 concentrating solar thermal collector, in a smaller, light-weight unit making it the world’s first CSP technology specifically designed for rooftop installation. SopoFlare’s compact design, at 8 feet long by 2.5 feet wide, is perfect for quick and easy installation by local HVAC and Plumbing professionals.

SopoFlare incorporates Sopogy’s proprietary “stow mode,” which enables the panel to flip upside down into a parked position in order to protect the optics from rain, hail and strong winds and to allow the system to be operated in harsh climate conditions. SopoFlare also features the unique ability to track the sun throughout the day using Sopogy’s proprietary automatic controllers.

SopoFlare is designed for use as a thermal energy generator that has the ability to create heat to power an absorption chiller, refrigeration unit, desalination production device and to create process heat or hot water.  “Sopogy has incorporated our unique frame, ready-to-assemble manufacturing, and automated controls into a new compact product, designed for rooftop installation. This brings concentrating solar power to the commercial and industrial facility in a cost effective, space efficient, and contractor friendly solution. Our customers receive the fastest paybacks available in solar, helping them save money and reduce their carbon footprint,” Darren T. Kimura, President and CEO, Sopogy, Inc.

Sopogy has been inventing, developing, and testing its unique MicroCSP technologies since 2002, and is dedicated to incorporating and applying innovative concepts and features to improve its technology.  SopoFlare marks a big step in the company’s mission to develop a modular, robust and cost effective concentrating solar thermal system to market today.  SopoFlare is currently available in the United States and through select distributors internationally.

About MicroCSP

MicroCSP systems use reflectors and optics that harness the energy from the sun to create heat that passes through a turbine to produce electricity.  The Sopogy MicroCSP solar collector system is a robust and elegant concentrating panel that was modeled after the very successful installation of concentrating panels in the Mojave Desert in the mid 1980’s.
