Practical Solar launches computer-controlled heliostat system

Practical Solar Inc. has introduced the the world's first computer-controlled heliostat system

The system can be used for CSP applications. Each heliostat is composed of a mirror frame and heliostat housing. The control system includes Windows-based software and a driver box, which can operate up to 200 heliostats, and and each heliostat can have its own targets and timer settings.

The company is also currently developing ancillary products like a CSP receiver that could be paired with the heliostat system. According to Practical Solar, an array of two or more heliostats can direct sunlight to different targets simultaneously, or to a common target for concentrating solar power. The company is offering the control system for $495, and each heliostat costs $995.
