In Mai 2008, the German Solar Power Group GmbH and the Spanish Laer S.L. agreed upon the joint execution of a solar thermal power plant in central Spain. This will be the first commercial solar thermal power plant in Spain based on the Fresnel collector technology of the Solar Power Group.

The planned size of the power plant will be 10 MWel and it combines a solar thermal collector field with a fossil co-firing unit as backup system. The Solar Power Group has already started with the optimization process of the design to reach best technical and economical efficiency of the solar thermal power plant.
