SENER bags a major contract

The engineering company, SENER, has bagged the supply contract for high accuracy two axes drives for the Gemasolar plant being built in Seville by Torresol Energy.

The plant is currently being built in Fuentes de Andalucía (Seville) and will be finished in 2011. Torresol Energy, a company with a 60% SENER stockholding and 40% Masdar stockholding, was set up in March last year.

SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas, S.A. says it has been awarded the biggest contract to date for two axes drives for heliostats.

The company will supply Torresol Energy with 2650 electromechanical drives, which according to SENER, is a record number for thermosolar plants with a central tower receiver. The Gemasolar plant, is the first commercial plant in the world with a central tower receiver using molten salt technology.

Earlier this year, in an interview with CSPToday.com, SENER’s Industrial Engineer Soledad Garrido mentioned that SENER’s solar tracker is a system characterised by its big surface capacity (85 sqm for CPV systems and 120 sqm for CSP systems) and “an excellent pointing accuracy of 0.1 even in strong wind conditions”.
