A pilot solar plant introduced in Iran

Iran has reportedly inaugurated its first solar energy power plant, adding 250 KW of solar energy to the country's grid. The first domestically-made solar power plant has been inaugurated as a pilot scheme.

As per the information available, it's a solar thermal plant that uses parabolic mirrored troughs to gather sunlight.

Iranian energy minister Parviz Fattah told IRNA that the ministry used Iranian technology to set up the plant. According to the official, the power plant has parabolic mirrors to direct solar radiation into its solar receivers.

According to a report filed by The Iran Daily, Fattah sees the Shiraz plant as a first step in Iran's commitment to solar energy technology, which will increase in Iran along with greater government investment.

"The country backs the use of alternative and renewable energy sources," said Fattah. "In future alternative energy sources will be greatly developed in the country. The growth of investments in this sphere is expected."
