R&D institutions and companies will work together during the International CSP Week

As CSP is relatively small, a few key players bid for the same projects. While in this scenario it’s difficult to see the benefits of creating work groups, analysts argue it is key to the industry’s success.

One recent example is storage. The incorporation of energy storage provides CSP with a unique advantage over other renewable energy large scale technology. So, thermal energy storage is now indispensable to CSP plants to produce cost-competitive energy through dispatchability. Governments like the South African have realized the importance of CSP with TES as a potential ingredient to their future electrical energy portfolio.

Worldwide, there are several energy storage solutions at the developmental stage, and a wide range have been proposed, but only molten salt and synthetic oil are currently used commercially. Both have limitations, specially operating at higher temperatures. For that reason multiple research institutions and companies have been researching and testing materials such as graphite, phase change materials, thermochemical storage or solid materials.

At CSP Enhanced Plant Engineering 2013, CSP players from all the value chain will have the chance to work together during the conference, debate on the most pressing CSP challenges and hear the latest R&D innovations.

Cobra, SolarReserve, ACWA, Abengoa, Torresol Energy, TSK, DLR, ENEA, Ciemat, CTAER and CSIRO will be present at the premier technical meeting point.
