D.C. renewable energy incentive programme introduced

A new series of upcoming green energy initiatives in D.C. is launched to support clean energy technology

Washington D.C.’s Department of the Environment  has introduced a multi-year renewable energy incentive programme for business owners and residents to install renewable energy technologies.

The programme will provide rebates for projects related to solar photovoltaic or wind turbine renewable energy system initially. But it was also announced that additional technology rebates are being planned for the second quarter of this year as regulations are adopted.

Conversion factors for incentives that apply to these systems, including solar thermal power, will be provided at the time rebates become available. Rebates for all systems are capped at a maximum of $33,000 (at 20 kilowatts capacity or greater) for each applicant site per programme year.

The source of these incentives is the Sustainable Energy Trust Fund (SETF), as established under the Clean and Affordable Energy Act of 2008. The programme  is administered through the District Department of Environment-Energy Office and will be overseen by the District of Columbia’s Sustainable Energy Utility.
