Cogentrix acquires Sunray’s two solar trough plants

Cogentrix Solar Services has completed the acquisition of SEGS I and SEGS II

Independent power producer Cogentrix Energy has completed the acquisition of Sunray Energy Inc and its two utility-scale solar trough plants in the Mojave Desert in California that date to the mid-1980s. Financial details were not disclosed.

Sunray is the owner and operator of solar trough plants in San Bernadino, California. The plants, Solar Energy Generation Systems (SEGS) I and II, deliver up to 43 megawatts of electric capacity under contract to Southern California Edison.

Cogentrix, which completed the deal through its wholly owned subsidiary Cogentrix Solar Services, plans to make investment in retrofitting and upgrading the delivery capability and reliability of SEGS I and II.

Cogentrix has also strengthened its development capabilities, appointing Edouard MacGuffie as vice president of solar development. Previously, MacGuffie was executive director of solar for FPL Energy.
