KSP to use PowerVerde’s power generation engine system

Keahole Solar Power (KSP), a Hawaii-based solar project and technology developer, has entered into a letter of intent with PowerVerde for a commercial-ready electrical power generation engine system and related accessories.

For PowerVerde, the development marks its first utility scale commercial installation.

This system will be installed and used for demonstration and testing in KSP’s 2MW solar thermal power generation facility at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii (NELHA) in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.

After four years of research and development, testing and validation, KSP broke ground on Phase 1 of the NELHA MicroCSP solar farm (using Sopogy’s solar collectors and thermal storage technologies developed by the company itself) last year. KSP has developed a thermal storage system which allows for the buffering of normally intermittent solar energy from clouds.

KSP’s goal is 30 megawatts of renewable energy for Hawaii by 2015.
