APS signs PPA for Starwood Solar I

Arizona Public Service Co. and private investment firm Starwood Energy Group Global have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for Starwood Solar I CSP project.

The 290 MW project will be owned by an affiliate of Starwood Energy. Lockheed Martin, as Starwood Energy’s exclusive partner, will serve as the project’s Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2013, pending regulatory approval.

Starwood Solar I will be constructed on 1,880 acres and will contain more than 3,000 100-meter parabolic troughs. The plant will be built in the Harquahala Valley, approximately 75 miles west of Phoenix.

Over the next 12 months, Starwood Energy and its affiliate Nautilus Solar Energy, LLC will work to complete permitting and structure and place the construction and permanent financing. Starwood Energy acquired Nautilus to expand its solar development platform in December last year.
