Aora launches hybrid solar power station

Aora has inaugurated its gas turbine solar thermal power station at Kibbutz Samar in southern Israel.

The Israeli solar energy technology company has described its initiative as the world’s first hybrid solar thermal power station. It will produce 100 kW of on-demand power and 170 kW of thermal power.

This marked the first time that CSP stations can provide environment-friendly power 24 hours a day, according to Aora’s CEO Haim Fried.

The power station consists of a field of 30 tracking mirrors, situated on half an acre of land. Each of the Samar station’s heliostat tracks the sun and reflect its rays toward the top of a 30 meter-high tower housing a special solar receiver along with a 100kw gas turbine.

The company plans to sign agreements for its technology in countries like Australia but no information has been disclosed till now.
