Albiasa Solar plans a 200 MW CSP plant in Arizona

The Albiasa Kingman project involves over $1 billion capital investment.

Albiasa Corporation, a subsidiary of Spain’s Albiasa Solar, has chosen a site near Kingman as the future location of its 200 MW CSP plant.

Assisted by the Arizona Department of Commerce, the plant is expected to begin construction in the first half of 2010. It would begin producing power by 2013, resulting in the creation of around 2,000 construction jobs and 100 permanent positions. The plant will use parabolic CSP technology. It will generate annually, with molten salt thermal storage, more than 665,000 MWh of renewable solar energy when completed.

The company has chosen Arizona as a location for its first major US project due to its solar and transmission resources. It has also recently opened a sales, marketing, and engineering office in Phoenix to serve as its Arizona headquarters. Albiasa is also planning similar operations elsewhere in the desert Southwest.

For Arizona, the latest development will be in addition to Abengoa Solars planned CSP installations.
