ABB has provided eSolar with equipment and engineering services for the development of the Sierra commercial demonstration facility.

The Sierra project is a solar thermal power plant design consisting of two solar light receivers, with each receiver being supported by a field of 12,000 heliostat reflectors.

ABB has been strengthening its status of being a leading supplier of power and automation solutions for the new generation of large-scale CSP plants.

Its scope of work includes instrumentation, control systems and electrical equipment for each stage of the process, including electrical balance of plant for the power block and connection to the high voltage grid.

ABB has provided power and automation solutions for two plants in Europe – Andasol 1&2 and Extresol 1&2, each unit of which has a generating capacity of 50 MW.
