We know that insurance is changing fast – but it remains to be seen if our industry is changing fast enough. With the extreme rate the likes of Amazon are launching into multiple new verticals, coupled with the rising number of customer-centric, digital-first insurtechs and start-ups, insurance has a great deal of learning to do.

“We need to figure out that technology disruption, look at our competitors who do it better, bring all of that thinking in… we need to start picking the pace up in that”, insists David Germain, UK&I Chief Information Officer at RSA.

The fundamental point that all agreed on was the absolute necessity of customer-centricity. As stated by Louise Smith, Chief Digital Officer at Lloyd’s, “you have to organise around the customer. Now, everybody says that. The thing that the brands and the business models we all love [do], you feel that. And that’s the difference”.
