Multimedia: Mapping US ethane cracker construction projects

There are currently seven ethane crackers under construction on the U.S. Gulf Coast - for a total of about 8.75 million metric tons of new annual ethylene capacity - five of which are slated to come on stream by the end of 2017, according to Petrochemical Update estimates.

Ten more ethylene facilities have been proposed for the Gulf Coast and the U.S. Northeast/Mid-Atlantic, most of which are in various stages of development. In addition, there is a total of about 1.45 million metric tons of ethylene expansions that have been announced for the first wave of petrochemical plant construction (2016-2019), all of which in Texas and Louisiana.

Multiple other ethane-based derivatives units and supporting infrastructure are also underway, primarily on the Gulf Coast.

Petrochemical Update has created an interactive map of the major ethane-based projects (proposed and under construction) that are expected to be completed by 2025, as well as the proposed new ethylene capacity by state.

The map will be updated and expanded regularly to give readers instant access to the latest project updates.
